Whole Wheat Cocoa Buns

Whole Wheat Cocoa Buns

At first, these were supposed to be a healthy breakfast. But, you can't just eat them all by themselves, right? Dulce de Leche pairs just perfect with cocoa buns. Or is it the other way around? Either way, I don't know what got into M & me that day to eat the whole jar of it. Luckily, I don't gain weight when eating too much, which I do often :D Later, astounded by all that sugar, I declared how I'll never eat sugar again, but as soon as M left to work, and I got myself together, I baked that Nesquik Cake. So much for my resolution.

But, don't let that turn you away from those buns. They are incredible. And dulce de leche is not that bad. If you can control yourself, and don't eat everything at once ;) I tried couple of recipes for it so far, and in my opinion, the best one is at Chez Pim's.

Whole Wheat Cocoa Buns

Whole wheat cocoa buns
(recipe slightly adapted from YOYO's Cooking Blog)

300 g whole wheat flour
5 g salt
180 g water
5 g instant dry yeast
20 g sugar
10 g cocoa powder
1 tsp olive oil

Knead all the ingredients into smooth dough, cover, and leave on a warm place to double it's size. Shape into buns, and then, with a sharp knife, slash the top of each bun, but very shallow. Let rest for about half an hour and then sprinkle with some flax seeds.

Bake in a preheated oven on 190°C for about 35 minutes.
